Stripped torx on strut tower

someone...please...HELP!!!

the torx nut on the drivers side was totally stripped. i have already done the passanger side, and everything else came out fine.with the master cylander, i couldnt get a parallel line to drill it out.

should i get a grinder bit out for my drill and grind off the entire head?

any suggestions? i know i have posted this a few times...but i am desperate. i cant put it back together and take it somewhere, but i cant finish it myself....help...

You might try grinding a slot in the bolt head and using an impact driver on it.

Re: Stripped torx on strut tower

tried that. but because of its location, and proximity to the brake lines, i can not get a grinder in there.

i would really like to meat the person who invetned torx heads...and kick them square in the nuts...or uterus if the're a woman...

No, this one's probably on you, not the invetner. When a fastener won't budge, forcing it is not usually the solution. And its not like the brake lines can't be removed.
If shoebox's solution doesn't work, I'd carefully grind the head off the screw and remove the upper shock mount and get the rest of the screw out with vise grips so you don't ruin the threads in the upper shock mount by drilling.

nope...it stripped on the first turn. the other one came out just fine...this one...a big slap in the face.

true, i could remove the brake lines, but i dont really want to go there unless its a last resort. i am going to try a grindign wheel, and grind the head away. once the shock tower is out, gonna cut a slice in the top, and see if i can get it with some heat, and a flat head.

Re: Stripped torx on strut tower

Cut the head off of a bolt and have someone tack weld it in place. It will be tough in that location, but where there's a will, there's a way.

Good luck.

Re: Stripped torx on strut tower

I hate when that happens. I just had a transmission plug strip on me 2 weeks ago. I had to weld another bolt to it and use the impact wrench.

Re: Stripped torx on strut tower

im going to grind off the head...then take the strut supports somewhere to get a nut welded on to the remaining bolt. then just unscrew it. sux...turns a 1 day job into a weekend project...but this is the price we pay for modification...
