Suspension/Chassis and HIGH mileage

Hey everyone, got a nice board here it seems like. I just wanted to say that I have a 95 M6 z28, and its just about to roll over 150k miles. When the motor goes shot in it, i'm debating on whether to buy a different z28, or just this one and rebuild the motor, possibly go with a stroker kit. But if i keep this motor and rebuild it, how is the frame and suspension and everything going to hold up at about 200k-250k miles on the frame of the car ? And if things dont hold up, could you list some of those parts that won't?

May I be the first to say welcome. Nice looking car. I can't help you out any with your question, but welcome anyways.

My 95 is holding up fine with 146K miles. You should freshen up the suspension parts (ball joints, bushings, outer tie rods) and shocks. No signs of frame issues on mine but mine hasn't been exposed to winter time salt "treatments"!

You might want to add subframe connectors. But thats really about it. I just added em on my 130k formula. Not an outstanding difference, but it feels a little more connected.

Re: Suspension/Chassis and HIGH mileage

Bushings and ball joints are the only thing that really wear out. I have 173,000 miles and I have only changed the bushings when I upgraded suspension parts. Same ball joints too.

Re: Suspension/Chassis and HIGH mileage

I am putting poly bushings all around in my car. Should I put new ball joints and tie rod ends in while I'm there? Should I just replace the outer tie rod ends?

Welcome to the board

Yea i'd just leave it for now, it will hold up. Plus if you stay on here very much you'll be buying all new parts anyway Skip meals to buy some LCA brakects and such....lol.

I also suggest getting some Subframe connectors---they do wonders for these cars. Night and Day difference....get the dimond type if you like to take fast corners--such as the SLP type

I'd probably just wait and do it when it needs it. They usually last a really long time.

Re: Suspension/Chassis and HIGH mileage

that is good to hear. I really don't want to spend all of money on tie rod ends and ball joints. Thanks

Re: Suspension/Chassis and HIGH mileage

It's good to have your tie rods and ball joints checked by a professional mechanic. They are critical parts of the suspension that don't really give you too much warning before failure.

New shocks and bushings sure wouldn't hurt if they haven't been replaced in a while.
