i am taking off the outter tie rod... to remove it are you suppose to turn it clockwise or counter-clockwise because I can't get the thing to budge one iota.

its not the nut, its the actual outer tie rod i can't get to move, without my crescent wrench slipping off the inner tie rod.

Spray some penetrating oil on the threaded area of the tie rod and let it soak in for awhile. You did loosen the lock nut before trying to remove the tie rod 1st right? And yes...you turn the tie rod counter clockwise to remove it.
