truck arm setup in 4th gen?

When IROC died and auctioned off all their junk this year, I picked up a really nice fresh Winters Quickchange rear end hoping it would fit in my 96 f-body (as they ran firebirds in IROC for years). Lo and behold the width is perfect and it just looks like I might need about 1 more inch of backspacing on the wheels for them to tuck in tight. Here is the crux of it though...after humming and hawing about what suspension setup to use I am strongly leaning toward a truck arm setup (as the pads are already on the rear end) and making a front mounting location on the tranny cross member. I'd make a panhard bar to locate laterally. Has anyone had any experience with this on these cars? I never had a chance to look under any of the IROC cars to se how much clearance was needed to my floorpan. Here is what it looks like in mock up.

I'll have to remove the gas tank as the *** of the rear end is right up on it but otherwise it clears everything else.
