Urgent ? about Bilstein shocks...please help

I have Bilstein shocks part # B46-2071 that I'm installing with Eiback Pro Kit springs using the spring perches off my stock Delco De Carbons. I believe those are the SLP valved Bilsteins. Anyway, the Bilsteins have this gold colored piece at the top of the body of the shock that seems to prevent being able to slide the bottom spring perch over it. I'm thinking that gold colored piece should come off, but I don't want to damage the shock. Can any of you tell me definitively if that piece comes off? Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

Yes it definitely comes off. When I got my Bilstein HD's, the gold piece came seperately and I had to pound it on with a hammer after putting on the perch. A couple of well aimed whacks with a hammer and screwdriver should take it off. Go on and put the perch on, and hammer it back on.

Thanks a bunch, RedRyder518.....
I know it was kind of a stupid question and I figured it came off (how else would someone put the spring perch on?), but I had to make sure. Thanks again.
