Whats the diffrance between the Ls1 & C5 front brakes

What is the diffrance between the ls1 front brakes and the c5 front brakes. Name on the vette calipers and longer brake hoses?

Re: Whats the diffrance between the Ls1 & C5 front brakes

C5 brakes have an additional inch of diameter on the rotor, 13.1" vs 12.1". This is the biggest reason to upgrade. (Large increase in braking performance, plus the big rotors look badass)

There are LOTS of race pad options that fit C5 calipers, with better pricing/availability compared to LS1 calipers. This is the second-biggest reason to upgrade, if you intend to use race pads.

I think that the C5 Z06's caliper is superior to the regular C5 (quad piston maybe?), but everything else is the same between Z06 and base C5.

The Calipers are the same both dual psiton. (ZO6 and C5) Z06 are just Red. The Vette caliper is also pressure cast making it stronger and more rigid than the LS1 caliper.

I have a 93z so I am upgrading to the ls1 conversion I still have stock 16in wheel. I am picking up tonight locally From a member selling front conversion with everything.(less pads)
For cheaper then I can replace my needed brake on it now, So would you say that is still an improvement over my stock lt1 front brakes

Re: Whats the diffrance between the Ls1 & C5 front brakes

Yes, the LS1 will be a noticeable improvement over LT1, also since it is aluminum v cast iron caliper will be less unsprung weight. Here is some good info on brakes http://aplsweb.com/Topics/Brakes.htm that will help you understand the physics when you start mixing and matching brake components.

Since you are going to a smaller volume up front, you will affect pedal feel a bit and affect bias slightly. I did the calcs when I went to the LS1 fronts and I recall something like 3% more rear bias; if it bugs you, you can 1) put LS1 on the rear or 2) put a proportioning valve in the rear line and turn back the rear pressure a bit. http://www.tceperformanceproducts.com/bias-calculator/

When you have it all apart you should also do 1) braided lines front and rear, 2) new fluid, I use ATE super blue, DOT 4 and seems to last pretty long, 3) better pads, I run the Hawk street/strip pads, 4) good stock rotors such as Brembo or ATE. IMO, stay away from drilled rotors as the holes are almost always stressors that result in cracks.

Lastly, the C5 setup will not fit under the 16" wheel.
