Had my first ten second pass the other day.
My younger brother let me drive his Nova last Thursday at my buds track rental from bigshotdyno. The car ran high 10's@130 years ago on motor but the best it would muster was a 11.6@120 so he opened up the bottle(125 shot) and ran in the 10's. We figured the motor was just getting tired and the springs were old...so we flogged the hell out of it. He has a 572", 14.6:1 short block in house waiting for a huge set of heads...so if it went south, so be it.
I ran three 10.9X passes with a best of:
60' - 1.7270
330' - 4.7070
660' - 7.1030 @ 102.48
1000' - 9.1362
1320' - 10.9041 @ 130.02
DA was around 2000'.
So he decided to work on the car Sunday. I helped work on the car and I thought the car felt lazy for the most part and now I know why.
The distributor was shot...all the weights were destroyed and it was getting no mechanical advance.
I was able to talk him into just throwing in a mild solid roller while we were at it being after the 7 years I am sure the springs he had were no good.
I figure the car should run low, low 10's next time out even with a lackluster tq converter in crappy weather.
Not to shabby for a .060" over 454(468") with basically out of the box Edelbrock cylinder heads, stock crank, stock rods, 2 bolt mains and 10.5:1 compression. I figure the car weighs in the 3200-3300 range.
Now that should be a little more interesting.
I guess I should start working on my car sooner or later again...

It felt good...especially about 30' when the nitrous hit...the way my Lightning was running in the heat it was not at the 1000' when his Nova was done.
