New PB, still poor track prep.

So last night we made a trip to Thompson Raceway Park. Second time this year, second time with horrible prep. Ran a Best of 13.2 @ 106.5 (DA was above 3000 I was told). Bolt on and cammed LT1 with a valve job. I am however missing some key mods. Getting my A/C delete and control arms installed as we speak. Ordering a bigger TB next month as well as a cutout. Then ill be able to get a dyno tune and spin the 306 where it needs to be. Only spinning to 6200 right now. On a brighter note, I wasn't the only one having a rough night. My only losses were back to back to the same car. An 08 Vette ran a 12.74 to my 13.2. Few mod mustangs there from 2002 to 2009, running in the low to mid 14's LOL.

EDIT: My Best 60' on Nitto DR's was a 2.15. This was at 38lbs. Dropped to 24 then 20 and it didn't help. Water drug through the staging lanes and poor prep.

Just looked it up, actual DA was 3100. Corrected time would have been 12.79 @ 110.7. The mods listed above with a dyno tune should put me near a 11.9 @114-115 in good weather and a good 60'. What do you guys think?

my fairly stock 85 z 60 footed 2.00 on streep tires. would it be worth getting drag radials?

If you aren't spinning, then you don't need them. I was spinning horribly with and without them. Wednesday nights they do time trials then bracket racing starting at 7. All the cars running street tires do big smokey burnouts and leave oil all over the staging lanes. Everyone drags water up. Nobody puts down traction compound. The track has been prepped horribly. These tires have complelely eliminated wheelspin in 2nd gear on the street and hook up very very well in first gear on the street without even doing a burnout. If the track was properly prepped and I was following a bunch of idiots I'd probably be seeing at least a 1.6-1.7 60' time.

Or, you could argue that you aren't launching hard enough if you haven't found a reason for DR's. Food for thought...

Depends on the car. A stock 1985 Z with a 305 should have no reason for DRs, Especially if it is running an auto tranny with 2.73's.

Too much traction can make you slower. A little wheel spin is good; bog and it'll give you slower ETs every time.

Kind of tough to bog with a well matched stall converter...

Oh, I was aiming that more at anthony22893. A bone stock 305 with enough stall and drag radials could still cut a killer 60ft!

A killer 60'? Maybe a decent 60'. 1.85 would be possible on the average track. I personally have done a best of 2.157 60' with a 3200 stall, 3.73 gears and drag radials (which sucks). Certain nights with a bunch of street cars doing smokey burnouts with street tires and running through the water box will kill a launch. Next time I go, I'm getting behind the monster cars. On street tires, I was able to get a 2.24 with bad track prep and with DR's I was ably to get about .087 better. But that .087 difference bettered my ET by .2. with the DA being 1000 worse. So I figure if I can get a 1.7 I can be in the mid to low 12's and then when I install my 52mm TB and get my dyno tune I should be in the 11.9 category.
