It's getting close to my time of having to get my annual smog check. My question is: Am I going to have to remove all or most of my mods in order to pass a smog test. I'm hearing a lot of "here-say" about smog techs failing if they see anything other than stock under the hood. If that's the case, I've got my work cut out for me before the test. I haven't started my LS1 swap yet because of this information either. I've been trying to get some information out of DMV, but they keep giving me the runaround. I'm hoping that maybe you could give me a little light on these rumors and tell me exactly ( or something close) to what I can expect when I go for my test. As far as the engine swap, I'm getting kinda discouraged about the whole deal and thinking about just going with the Powerdyne system but even so, I'm hearing that that would cause me to fail as well. I guess you just can't win in California? Please let me know if you have the time. Thanks so much.

Since I don't know what mods you have I advise you. My friend owns his own shop that I visit most of the time to use his lifts. The only time I've ever seen him fail people due to equipment and not emissions is were on illegal cats and straight pipes.
If you have a CAI, it's most likely CARB exempt. I wouldn't worry too much about your parts unless you know for sure they're illegal.
BTW, I know...I'm not Max.

the mods I have are as follows...
MSD Dis-4, Comp Cam, Custom Jet chip, CAI, 1.6 roller rockers, underdrive pulley, K&N, port and polished heads, flowmaster, 3" catback with cutout, and a high flow catalytic converter, and a centerforce dual friction clutch.
That's about all I can think of that would even remotely affect my smog. Everything else is suspension and cosmetic. I really appreciate your time to explain this to me.

Well you should be ok.
Unless there are codes in the PCM for the chip, and you have the engine compartment modified.........no smog tech in the world is gonna be able to tell that the heads are ported, and there is a cam.
Visually....does it look modified??? If you think it is, then the smog tech will for darn sure think it is. Be sure all the hoses and everything are where they are suppose to be and things like that..
I would probably pull the chip, and go for it....

Okay, now that I'm clear on whether my car will pass smog as it is, my question now goes to whether or not it will pass in California with an LS1 or a Powerdyne? That's what I'm most concerned about. I've got just about everything to do an LS1 swap, but if that's not going to fly with the smog tech's will they look down upon a supercharger being installed as well?

CARB E.O number? I don't get it. What's that stand for? As for the LS1, I've been told when the VIN number is run and it comes up as a V-6 and the tech sees an 8 under the hood...FAIL. I'm just trying to get all the information before getting started. Sorry for being such a pest. I'm just not getting anywhere by asking around here. You're the only one who's given me a straight answer. I appreciate it very much by the way.

CARB E.O. #....California Air Resources Board Executive Order Number
......means that it passed cerification of use on the car, and not cause it to fail.
If you get a system, ask them if it has a "E.O. number"
As for the vin number....BS!
The computer asks you in to put the engine type.
Just get a new emission label for the radiator shoud....
Shhhh.....remember I didn't tell you how to "bend" the rules and run the loopholes
