Question Belt Squeal

i have a 95 camaro 3.4L that recently started to squeal. I thought it may be the belt so i bought a new one. It stopped it for maybe a 2 or 3 weeks then it came back. There is a video at the bottom showing what it sounded like after the 2 to 3 weeks that it came back. But i was just wondering if it was ok to spray some Multi Purpose Lubricant on the belt. I already did and it has stopped the squeal. I dont know if i should have done that or not.

Here is the Lubricant--- MPL

Re: Belt Squeal

you can buy a specific belt spray at an autoparts store, it will actually increase the grip of the belt to eliminate squeals,

I would think a muti purpose lubricant would only make the slipping worse, assuming the squeal was caused by slippage.

It sounds like you have too much friction in a pulley somewhere or your tensioner is bad if it squeals only after 2-3 weeks so you have another issue there, it may not be a big deal but you might want to take your belt off and check your pulleys for play or high friction and check the tensioner.

Re: Belt Squeal

i too have a 95 3.4 camaro, and it has been my experience that this is very common on these cars because of the Belt Tensioner Pulley. It has a plastic wheel. Replace it and it shouldnt squeal for a year or so, but expect to replace it about once every 12-15 months unless you can find a belt tensioner pulley that has the metal wheel, or try the spray like the other poster said
