Fuel Pump/Relay Issue

Fuel Pump/Relay Issue
Original Post
The camaro is now running great and I'm updating the original post.
What I did (in chronological order):
1. Changed fuel filter twice ($40)
2. Changed spark plugs ($35)
3. Checked all relays and fuses with volt meter (computer was shutting voltage off after .5 second)
4. Changed fuel pump ($110)
5. Cleaned all grounds, including the main ground. (there is a GM recall on the main ground)
6. Changed MAF sensor/meter. ($150 - seemed to be the culprit)
Three hundred dollars later and car runs like new. The mass air meter was sticking at 2 lb. and my car was pretty much running off of correction from the o2 sensor when it was working. So, the computer was shutting off to prevent damage to the engine. Put a new sensor in and the computer was showing 20ish lb. at idle and then going up to 35ish when revving it up. The mass air flow sensor is very easy to change and I would recommend checking it with a diagnostic to see if it is running properly if your car is hesitating like mine was.

2000 Camaro 3.8L V6. The car has been intermittently losing power, bogging down, and dying sometimes at stop lights. I replaced the fuel filter (which was disgusting and had a little water in it) and the spark plugs. I'm no mechanic, but those seemed like the easiest things to do before I got in too deep. The car still seemed like it wasn't getting fuel or the injectors were clogged, but I'm not too sure.
Last night I drove the car about 10 miles and it drove perfectly the entire time. I was getting on an on ramp where I needed to accelerate a little more than I wanted to and more than my car wanted to as well. It died and would not start back. I couldn't hear the fuel pump priming and figured it had kicked the bucket. Had it towed to my house.
Today, I bought a new relay, but it did nothing. I bypassed the relay and put power directly to it and I can hear fuel running in the rail and I believe the pump is working. Trying to start the car while doing this does nothing. Any ideas?

Re: Fuel Pump/Relay Issue
Just found this guys post. I forgot to say that I am getting a MAF code.
https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/sho...ight=fuel+pump
I'm just not hearing my fuel pump turn on like I used to when I turn the key.
If I do replace the pump will the TRE-340C 255 LPH or Walbro GSL392 work on a v6 3.8L?

Re: Fuel Pump/Relay Issue
I could really use a little advice. I think I'm going to take off the MAF tomorrow and clean it for good measure. The fuel pressure tester is the only thing I can do to see if my fuel pump is gone?

Re: Fuel Pump/Relay Issue
if it is anything like the v8s it will have a fuel pump prime wire under the hood. if you apply 12v you should hear the pump and get pressure to the fuel rail. If not your pump is dead.

Re: Fuel Pump/Relay Issue
Awesome link. Thank you for the info. I've seen a few youtube videos showing the trap door method and I believe that I will use it because I heard you have to take your exhaust and rear axle off to drop the tank.

Re: Fuel Pump/Relay Issue
We ran the fuel pressure tester on the maro today and it had 22 psi. The car will not start. We pulled the pump out of the car via the trap door method. I really hope it's what is wrong. We are replacing it with an walbro or airtex tomorrow.

Re: Fuel Pump/Relay Issue
I"m looking at these three pumps. Which one should I use and does it really matter for a v6 3.8L Stock Camaro.

Re: Fuel Pump/Relay Issue
Thx for your reply. I ended up ordering a TRE Performance one because it had more information tha summit on what the pump could be used for. I also like the fact that it comes with the replacement tubing and socks. Ended up going with:
http://treperformance.com/i-63693-ch...1993-2002.html
I've taken pictures of our trap door on a 2000 Camaro and the pump location is a little bit different than the ones that I have seen. I'll post them soon.

Re: Fuel Pump/Relay Issue
Same symptoms and I checked the fuel filter and it was able to send fuel. My engine is the TPI 5.0 though. I checked the fuel rail and pressed on the "tire nozzle" looking thing to see if pressure was building but there wasn't or very little.
I'll keep you posted if I find anything out cause I need my Z up and running ASAP...you do the same please.
I find it hard to believe it would be the fuel pump on mine cause I already replaced two of them since I had it; but I do have the original engine and everything else at 180,000 miles.
