Help!!!!!! '99 V6 Belt!

My wife just got stuck again in her Camaro and I'm out of ideas to fix it. It's a 99 v6 and cannot keep the drive belt on. The car throws the belt. After repalcing it (cause it gets lost on the road) I have noticed that the tensioner does not line up correctly with the belt. The belt is riding almost on the edge of the tensioner. I know that this is why it is coming off but what do you guys think the fix would be. Should I replace the tensioner or are there any other fixes?

I would reccomend checking the bearing in the pulley. If that checks out ok, replace the tensioner. thats prolly your problem.

Yeah i went ahead and replaced the pulley because it was only $14.00 and it didn't work. After looking at it real close it is the tensioner. The problem now is that it's not like the one on my truck, No Bolt to remove the tensioner. It looks like the tensioner is built into the part of the Alt bracket that also has 2 hoses going through it. So it doesn't look like you can just replace the tensioner, looks like you have to do the whole thing. The local 24 hour parts-orama store doesn't even have a part # for the tensioner. This is going to be fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a trip to the dealer.

I replaced my belt a month ago and know exactly what you mean, the belt sits right on the edge of the tensioner, I am kinda suprised that the belt stayes on.
