Lost power on expressway and now knocking
I bought a 2000 Camaro 3.8 from a mechanic (go figure). He said everything was fine and drove it daily, etc. Oil pressure gauge would never stay at constant. I changed the sensor thinking that was the problem, but it didnt help.Took it to Cottman Transmission, they said oil pressure was fine and it was wires that were loose. But even after they fixed that, it still wouldnt stay still. Drove 15 miles on expressway and car lost power and turned off. Coolant pouring out from where you pour it in. Knocking started and Cottman says it has metal in oil pan. Could it have really been the oil pump failing in the first place?

Any update on this? It sounds like a bearing that was in the process of failing and finally let go while you were driving on the expressway. Anytime I see a car that is advertised as a mechanic owned car, I have to chuckle. A mechanic knows more of what he can get away with and when it is time to dump a car for various reasons.

i have a 96 3.8 camaro. took it to the shop cuz the oil pressure was dropping. the car itles at 30psi then as the car gets warm it would drop to 10psi. but the car ran normal! at first i thought it was the oil pump but it wasnt so they thought there might be a clog so they took it apart and found out the crankshaft bearing was bad so they replaced it and put the car back together. we started the car and it itles at 30psi then as the car gets warm it would drop to 10psi (samething that was happening when i took it in) so i take it home to look everywhere for leaks and on the way home the rockers start clicking. is thiis what happened to yours? and how did u fix it?????
