Need a new transmission

hey guys, I am a new member and so far, i really love this forum. I have a 2000 camaro with a v6 and a 5 speed tranny. My situation is this. I can't shift into 5th gear with out working it. To get into reverse, I have to shift into 4th, then reverse. Can anyone tell me if this is an easily fixable problem, or will I have to throw out an arm and a leg to get it fixed, or should i just buy a brand new transmission. If I have to buy a new one, where can i go to get a fully assembled transmission? thanks.

Not sure about the 5 gear situation, but reverse is always a pain. No synchronizers for reverse so sometimes you have to throw it into a different gear or play with it first.

Usually ill do 5th to Reverse at a stop. Always works for me.
If your doing 4th to 5th, just take it easy. Usually it will just fall in. Dont force it...its not a race gear-just cruising.

so, does that mean i am going to need a new tranny? if so, do you a good place to one? or remanufactured is fine with me. New York Block Exchange sounds pretty good. quoted me $950 for remanufactured and delivery with a 1 year warranty/12000 mi. is that good?

I guess it sounds strait, you just want to make sure they remanufacture it with good parts, but warranty is always good just remember to read the fine print.

Doesn't Jasper do transmission too? I don't know much about their pricing, but I know their engines usually carry a 3 year 36k mile warranty. If the transmissions have the same warranty as their engines, and are just a little bit more than the place you mentioned, it might be worth it for two extra years worth of coverage.
