oil change
i bought my car like three months ago and i think its time for an oil change before the summer....i dont exactly drive my car easy and in NYC it can get pretty trafficky, so i'm thinking i gotta use thicker oil like maybe 10W-40 or so....wut do u guys think is best?
also i'm planning on doing the change myself and i can't find chiltons manuals or anything for my 2001 3.8 so i need some type of instructions if possible...i know the basics of an oil change but if u guys could help me out i'd really appreciate it

if you need a book id check out www.helminc.com id be willing to bet they have the service manual for your car. I have a v8 so im not sure exactly how the different oils work in your car but if you check in your owners manual it should tell you. For me the sugested oil was 5w-30 because it would work all the way down to -50 or something but since my car doesnt see winters it was switched to a 10w-30 because its more optimum for the temperatures it will be running under. Again check your owners manual itll tell you whats best for your car and id definitly go with a full synthetic oil.

yeah they have it. Its kind of expensive at 120 bucks american (mine was only 90 yay having a third gen ) but its worth its weight in gold it tells you everything from how to do an oil change to how to completly tear apart and rebuild your a/c compressor. It has over 3000 pages of info and is an investment that you should definitly make. Just so you know its not engine specific so it has all of the info v6 v8 all in the same book.
heres the link for the service manual 2001 service manual

I would use the recomended SAE 5w-30 for your car. As long as you change it every 3000 miles you shoudnt have a problem, for all that stop and go traffic i would make sure you clean and flush your cooling system often and throw in a manual fan switch as well for the hot days.
As for the synthetic depends on the mileage. If you dont convert the car to synthetic when its relitivly new, you may experiance leaks cause the synthetic is so thin, espcially if you have a fare amount of miles on the car.
