Cool Saw a 3.4 with 292k on it!

I was at a pontiac dealer with my friend because he wanted to look at GTP's and I saw a purple 3.4 firebird (the only f-body on the entire lot)sitting in the back behind a few other cars. I walked over to it and this thing looked like it had been through a war, it wasn't for sale and it still had plates on it. I looked inside and the interior was dirty as hell and then looked at the odometer, 292k Anyone else ever heard of a 3.4 with this many miles? I wonder if it was the original engine?

Never heard of one going that high, but if everything is original, then I feel pretty damn confident about my car right now!

There was actually one with 270K miles for sale at a delarship in Houston a few months ago.

They were asking 2700 for it in. I almost went and got it as a beater. Luckily it is 5 hour drive from Dallas to Houston so I didn't make the trip...

I'm sure if you keep up with the maintenance, you'll get a 300K+ out of it.

if a engine is maintained, fluids changed, not run too hard and allowed to warm up.....I believe at least 175k could be possible without some sort of rebuild.

My 96 3.8 has 136,950 on it and doesn't feel like it has lost anything.

My car is runing decently strong and it has nearly 120k on it and only mods or repairs I ever did that required opening the motor was adjusting the rockers for tapping.

My 94 3.4 had 170k when I sold it. Never had any big things go wrong, just little stuff that I fixed in the back yard. I was so confedent in the car that I sold it to my neighbor. That was a great car that went through some hard driving. But always changed fluid on time or before!!!

Its not a 3.4 but a guy with a 84 Camaro (5.0l) has almost 270,000 miles on his car but he has had to replace just about everything except for the engine.

I just rolled 145k yesterday! everything original but the clutch and alternator. I red line it at least once a day and its still running strong! Got a little of the smoke when you start it up because of the very poor valve guide seals that Chevy uses but other than that its running strong as death.
