I am not sure whether the above is a fact, but if it is, could it be possible that they might have lobbied for it due to all the stupid people who didn't use the seatbelt and got in an accident which, in turn, cost the insurance company a boat load of money?

As well as the health insurance companies.

Oh, and I'm sure the safety of the citizens could have nothing to do with it, either, could it.

Some people...

Oh well...

Did you notice that we the people didn't vote on that? Special interest groups, in this case the ins. ind. promote these ideas to law makers.
Could it be possible that more healthcare dollars are spent on lung disease but smoking is legal? Very possible. See, double standard.

What about speed limits? Did you vote on those?

Thought so...

There's plenty of things you/we weren't asked about, so the double standard as a reasoning is pretty much worthless IMO.

But, what ever floats your boat...

You bring up an excellent point...

We should be able to vote on speed limits.

Although I always wear my seatbelt, I think this law is stupid. There have been instances (albeit fairly rare) where not wearing a seatbelt has saved someone's life. It should be your choice.

By the way, People saying they would rather be thrown from their car are just dumbasses..
Yeah, what kind of dumbass would want to be thrown from their car before it runs off a cliff and goes up in flames or down a ravine, landing upside-down in a river?

Maybe they brought it on themselves by lobbying for another stupid law: MANDATORY INSURANCE. THINK?

Since the majority of states have repealed their mandantory helmet laws as a trade to insure passage of their primary seat belt laws, I'd have to conclude that it has jack to do with safety. THINK?

Seems odd but then, both are issues of personal responsibility. Our founding fathers knew that very well, hence the near total absence of such compulsory laws in pre 1900's America.

Funny....

"some bubba" then uses the term "Yall"?

Imagine this scenario which occurs every day...

Woman puts on makeup in rear view mirror. Woman, while her eyes are on her eye shadow, is not paying attention to the stopped car in front of her. Woman smashes into rear end of car in front of her. Man in car in front of her is not wearing his seatbelt and gets a few cuts to his face and a broken nose, which is paid for by the woman's insurance, which in your estimation raises insurance rates.

Which factor directly caused this raise in insurance rates?

A. The man who didn't wear his seatbelt.
B. The woman who smacked into the man's stopped car.

It has nothing to do with the "morons" that actually CAUSE ACCIDENTS, I suppose, in your estimation? You all need to wake up.

Re: Click it or ticket

That is a good example DV. Cops can write tickes all day long but you can't prevent people from being stupid. People can't even watch to see if someone is slowing or stopping? I dont know much about fords but I don't think explorers seat 9 people. Kids were'nt belted?? Traffic laws are supposed to be enforced to promote public safety. Tickets are written to warn drivers that they have violated a traffic law. Tickets in the name of public safety? Then tickets for certain offences should involve more DL suspensions to make the streets safer. Instead there are huge increases in fines across the board. There is not enough profit in keeping the public safe.
