Re: Click it or ticket

The "public health" argument is a dangerous opening to give the government in control over your life. I wouldn't want to go down that road. Poor people eating cheeseburgers all their lives cost the public more money than fixing broken arms in terms of medical costs, why don't we ban saturated fat too.

Cigarettes are already going down this road, and if the states weren't on the dole from the lawsuit settlements, they'd probably put the tobacco companies out of business too.

People have no incentive to behave properly when they can expect the govenment to take care of them should their own dumbass decisions come home to roost.

Since the majority of states have repealed their mandantory helmet laws as a trade to insure passage of their primary seat belt laws, I'd have to conclude that it has jack to do with safety. THINK?
Wow... You registed just to dig up almost two year old thread for this...?

Thank you, drive through.

Re: Click it or ticket

Given the choice I would rather have the seat belt law than that dumb *** front plate law.

Imagine this scenario which occurs every day...

Woman puts on makeup in rear view mirror. Woman, while her eyes are on her eye shadow, is not paying attention to the stopped car in front of her. Woman smashes into rear end of car in front of her. Man in car in front of her is not wearing his seatbelt and gets a few cuts to his face and a broken nose, which is paid for by the woman's insurance, which in your estimation raises insurance rates.

Which factor directly caused this raise in insurance rates?

A. The man who didn't wear his seatbelt.
B. The woman who smacked into the man's stopped car.

It has nothing to do with the "morons" that actually CAUSE ACCIDENTS, I suppose, in your estimation? You all need to wake up.
Wow, congradulations on thinking of a scenario that proves my point exactly. If the guy had been wearing his seatbelt, he wouldn't have flown forward onto his dash and possibly slit his throat. Instead the woman's insurance just has to pay for the damage to his car. Understand how things work now?
Or how about a guy not wearing his seatbelt that runs off the road and nails a tree. The guy is thrown from the car. He's braindead. He spends a year on life support due to his full coverage costing $150,000 before someone gets wise and pulls the retard's plug when he could've just walked away from the wreck with a headache and gotten $12,000 to get a new car.
Or the guy that rearends someone and gets his neck broken by his airbag because he slid too far down his seat due to not wearing his seatbelt. His family sues the airbag maker for millions because their kid was an idiot.
See a pattern? Not wearing your seatbelt almost garauntees larger medical bills for someone's insurance, even if its not the guy's fault in the accident.

And why the hell did this thread get dug up?
