This crap just keeps getting better and better. Looks like there are 2 stories going on and if the second is true there will be much more than a small lawsuit.
Chris updated the post himself, the saga continues...

so already paid them ???
if you did why?
will they just refund all your money?
have you ever had the motor in your car?

I've already had one working engine (somewhat) that I drove from Houston here. The car died later the next day and would not start and was trailered back to Houston at Chris's expense. The car was paid for in-full when I left the shop the first time. The second engine had a crack in it there at his shop, I never saw the engine. I've already paid for the engine, it would be pretty tough to get my money back now after all of this without going through a court of law.

I don't think you'd have any trouble convincing a judge that you should be entitled to a complete refund, and the immediate return of your car at shops expense.
All you'd have to do is show them the receipt of when you paid, and show that...you have no car after 6 months.
Chris may be a good guy, but the way he is running business is unexcusable. Whether he was given a bad block or not, doesn't matter to me. His first mistake was having someone else do the work. The people who do work for you, you are ultimately responsible for.
If he had assembled the block himself then he would have known it was cracked. How good of a speed shop are you if all you do is sub out your work? What kind of reputation is that? Nevermind that, I'm still awaiting a legitimate answer as to why you keep a customers car for six months, pre-paid!!!

Just go to MTI and have a set of Stage 3 LS6 heads and X1 cam. You'll run faster with that combo and weight reduction/stall than you would have with that lame azz fo twenty two.
It'll cost you less also, and you can run a TH350/400 or have a built T56 (wayyyyyy more fun).
I woulda got my car back from them ages ago. You need to sue for all the fees you'll pay in the event that you do go that route (which you should).

Ben, this may be hard for you since you are such a nice guy. But imagine you came home and your girlfriend was humping your best friend on your bed. With a picture of your parents on your bedstand facing them. Now take that anger and direct it towards this shady shop. Sorry to be so grafic but after 6 months
First thing is to get your car out of there as fast as humanly possibel. If this shop somehow gets seized, backrupt, or the owner splits you may have a long wait getting your car back.
You need to get this guy to sign a contract. You need an attorney to pressure this guy. Get deadline in writing.
Man I feel for you. This crap aint right!

I'm really sorry to hear the news Ben...I've been keeping track of the LS1tech posts. I'm gonna have to agree with the guys on here and say you should personally go there, find out what's going on...if it sounds fishy, get your money back and tow that thing over to MTI...I'll even help you out with the tow if you need

Ben I hate to say it but you should have gone to MTI, they would have had more reputation to loose.
I would tell this shop to give you your car back and your money or lay down a nice hefty lawsuit.
This is more then ridiculous.
