Proposed mtg place in Austin for SLP Day Tour

Gauging interest here. How about all Austin people meeting at RPM Indoor Racing parking lot in Round Rock, TX. Round Rock is attached to the north end of Austin on I-35. The exit would be #251, Business 35, Round Rock. You take the exit, go to the light that is South Mays, take a left to the light across the highway, take another left at that light and head back north on the feeder road of I-35 for about 1/8 mile and the entrance is on the right next to a Burger King. There is a huge parking lot and we can just loop back aroung to get back on the highway. Does this sound good? Any other ideas?

The San Antonio people and some of the B/CS guys are trying to arrange to meet the Austin group, as well. This parking lot is big enough to hold a lot of cars, and highway access is pretty good, so it should be a quick in and out.

Also, if you guys in the area ever get bored, the RPM Go-Kart track is really fun.

That sounds good for the SA people. We'll meet you there unless you decide to change it.

Time

Time depends on the SA people. Right now, they are deciding between 5:45 arrival and 6:30 arrival. Bloodztone is ironing that detail out. I'll keep you posted. ttt

Time

From what I gather, the SA guys will be motoring through the Austin area in the 6:30 -6:45 range.

The earlier, the better... Right?

I mean, what is our ETA @ Ennis if we leave Austin @ around 6:30? I'm coming from San Antonio @ the Best Buy gathering spot, too, and I guess it seems like if we leave Austin @ 6:30, it'll be pushing it to get to Ennis at a reasonable time... Right? I guess I don't know how long it takes to get to Ennis from Austin. Also, what channel are we going to be on w/our FRS radios? Just in case we have stragglers and such who don't meet us in the parking lots.

Rey we hadn't decided on the channels yet but it would be easy to keep it on channel one in case other people only have a 1-4 channel set. It's a 4 hour drive by mapquest's standards at 60mph. How many of us are actually going to go 60 ? SLP day doesn't start till 9am and there will be a buttload of cars trying to get in anyway. There will be a wait no matter what time we get there.

Good call!

Didn't think about that... Channel 1 it is! We may not even need to stop in Austin at that if the Austin-ites have FRS... We could just let 'em know as we got close that we were about to drive by. Anyhow, regardless, not sure how many people are going, but hopefully everyone has a great time. I hope it doesn't rain!

I got some 5 mile FRS radios so we'll be able to let the Austin guys know a few minutes before we even get to them.

Sweet! I'm sure some of us may need to stop around that time though for gas or something. Those 5 mile FRS... That's grms or gmrs or whatever, right? Is the range really that far? I need to get a set of 'em. Anyhow, about a helmet... Where'd you guys get 'em and what do you recommend? Any places rent 'em?

Your best bet for helmets is probably at a motorcycle place. I know the motorcycle dealer on I-10 and DeZavala by the Acura dealership was having a sale on them recently. Be prepared to pay $100 for one, I know they're not cheap, but you might get lucky and find one for under that.
