question for the LT1 guys?

i have a 96 Z28 and i am going to put HEaders on it, if i get rid of my cats will it set a code?

i am also thinking of getting rid of all my smog bull sh*t will that set a code?

dont really want to have the computer reprogramed at this time.

the reason i am asking is cause the motor is out right now i am installing a LT4 hot cam springs and roller rockers and changing the clutch.

also does anyone know the specs on a stock LT1 cam?

Lots of good information on this site and your LT1 cam specs are at the bottom.

http://www.automotiverebuilder.com/ar/ar99928.htm

All that stuff will set a code if you get rid of it, but if you get your computer reprogrammed it will not. Seeing as you don't want to reprogram I thin kyou can search and find the resistors for the AIR pump, maybe some used Casper O2 Sims, and some block off plates for the EGR stuff, you will just have to leave it plugged in.

yes it will set codes you will need to have the computer tuned and the codes turned off. your pcm has systems that monitor the function of your emissions controlls.

Stick an OBD1 pcm in it and drive it. No codes that way.

Codes

if it was me i would just tune it especially since u got the motor out they will have the pcm for a week and u already got down time with the motor yanked out. Send it to maddz28.com or anyone u trust, cuz ur car is going to run and idle like s*** with the new cam if u even get it to idle! Its not a high dollar mod its like 125 - 150 for the tune and anything u do to it afterwards for like 90 days is a free to have it tuned again. Something to think about plus u want to get the most out ya car!

i thought with the LT4 hotcam you could get by without having the computer tuned.

i also thought it was like $300 to have the computer tuned ok well maybe i will just send the computer off and have that stuff deleted

u still need a tune bro to make it run as best as it can and a mail in tune is about 150 or so not 300. Ur car is still going to know something ant right even with a hot cam, its going to be breathing more air with the longer valve opening and thats whats going to allow it to idle rough and not run as good

Yep, mail order is only like 150ish all included, a dyno tune is around $400 so that was probably what you were thinking. With the popularity of the hotcam most mail order tuners can nail it pretty close so a dyno tune is not needed.

thanks for the help guys, the last one i had tuned was from PCM for less, it worked real well. but it was a 96 SS with a 383

ULAKOVIC22 i want to see the pics of this BBC WS6....... i have been debating on slapping the 565 with big chiefs on it in the 96 Z and making a 10.5 car out of it.like to see the fit of a normal headed BBC in one before i decide to go threw all that damn work!

Hey cory! Long time man!

Glad to see you back in the LT1 game

I'd get rid of all the smog,egr,etc...just clutters the engine bay.

Get some hooker lt's with no cats and you'll have a good flowing exhaust.

Like the others said, I'd atleast go with a mail-order tune to optimize your setup, and if needed you can have them set you up on the rich side incase you want to spray later on.

Which clutch are you going with?

Cody

Here is a link to a thread I started a while ago when I was mocking everything up. I'm trying to take a lot of pictures and I'll post up once it's complete.

whats up Cody long time no see bro. you still in Dallas area?
and what do you mean use the spray later on? hell i put a kit on the car 2 weeks after i got it. lol

ulakovic , that is going to be a cool *** set up when finished!

oh and on the 1000 HP the 565 in the 70 model camaro produced 1069 HP at the flywheel on the 3rd pull granted it does have big chiefs (heads and cam make the power in a BBC) but it needs a sheet metal intake and 2 dominators to actually make some more HP , but for now it will just have to be made up with the 2 nitrous kits that are on the car(one nozzle kit and a plate kit)

well i guess now i have another problem, i bought a LT1 from a guy here a while back to resale, and in boxes he had a lt4 hotcam in a box, with valvesprings and rocker(springs and rockers are comp cams)

well anyway i pull the cam out of the tube that it was in and the part #s on it dont match up to a hot cam. so i really have no idea what cam i have now.

cant find the part #s that are on this cam anywhere maybe one of yall know the cam.

stamped on the back of the cam is 322R and 586AC142

stamped in front of the first lobe is AC 325 276134

does anyone have any idea where i could find the specs for this cam?

Cory,

I can't help you on the cam... but when I installed the comp cam in my
'96 street car, I put in 95 computer and had Mad Wolf program it for a dual cat car with removable chips.

He is pretty good and not outrageously expensive.
