Re: Rita: Good Luck Fbuds!

we were headed to austin but after 7 hours of stop and go driving and 30 miles traveled the car started to buckle. had to turn around and head back home. relatives did make it however and say it's pretty bad, shelters are full and they have nowhere to go. what i did see were loads of people handing out water and food to weary travelers.......that made me almost cry. these were ordinary people helping out....they just went up to you and asked if you were ok and if you needed help...black, white, mexican they didn't care. that was awesome. i saw so many sad sights though...so many cars stranded...people with no A/C or had it off to save gas....asking for water. i didn't want to put my family through that so i decided the best alternative was to head home and get ready. wish me luck .

Cars can be replaced, people cannot.
On Saturday, I'm bubblewrapping the rear end of my Corolla since I can't get the entire thing in our garage behind the Camaros. I don't want hail damage.

Plus, with all the bubble wrap, maybe the car will float, it only weighs 2200 lbs afterall .

well I just got done cleaning up my lawn. No damage except one window screen got riped off during the middle of the night. Power was out from 2am til about 3:30pm. But I was asleep for most of that time so no real big deal, might have to tos out some thing in the frig but no real big deal. My car didn't recieve any damage neither did my mom's or dad's.

I'm a C-130 Crew Chief out of Dyess. Thursday night we flew into Port Arthur to do medical evacuations. On the way in, from 20,000ft we saw the traffic jam. 45 was lit up like a runway for as far as we could see.

the most we did was flip our trampoline.. other than that. no boarded windows no tape.. just waited it out and sure enough.. hardly any rain either.. just a yard full of pine cones and needles to rake up and done.. people really over reacted.. I guess I will always be a nay sayer but I dont see any cause for all the chaos.

Either that or as my woman said, I need to stop messing with computers and start weather forecasting as I had this one pegged..

My girlfriend is from Orange. Her family got out, as did most of her friends. One of her friends hasn't been heard from in a day or two, from anyone, so please keep thoughts and prayers towards her.

It'll be at least a few more days until my girlfriend's family knows if they still have a house.

My aunt, uncle, and both of their kids are from Beaumont. They went back yesterday to look at their house and found it in shambles. Three of the rooms had completely caved in. They got the rest of their vehicles and are going to be moving in with us for a while. Probably a few months, at the minimum.

Tried to call and txt msg Jeremy (1965GP), but no luck. Hope you guys are ok.

Ryan

Their house is okay. Their shed is gone. Their horse is injured.

Re: Rita: Good Luck Fbuds!

I live in Vidor. We got the western eyewall with winds from 100-110. The first picture is the house I was renting. My landlord did not have insurance. We lost some furniture but it was really all just hand-me-down stuff anyways. My wife's celica only had a few scratches from carport sheeting. The tree missed it by about 10 ft.

I think the pictures speak for themselves.
