Best fitting rims tires 95 Camaro?

Will a 18×9.5 rim work on all 4 corners? The rims are c6 with 58 offset. Im getting mixed answers. The guy from oe wheels said they fit correctly. But another person from discount tire said they will not fit. So will they or will they not? Also if there a fit whats best size tires to put on these rims?? Thank you

re: Best fitting rims tires 95 Camaro?

No problem in the back.

But the front is a tough call. As a point of reference, I run a 17x9.5" 56mm offset wheel in the front, and the inner edge of the rim is very close to the steering knuckle. 58mm offset moves the wheel inward another ~0.08". That may hit or it may not. The steering knuckle curves inward at the top, so the rim of an 18" wheel will be a 1/2" higher on the knuckle, and may have enough room..

Further complicating all this is the assumption required to calculate the backspace of the wheel, given the offset. The actual width of the wheel is the nominal width (9.50") where the tire beads sit, plus the two flanges that hold the tire on the rim. That can vary based on the manufacturer and design. My wheel has an 0.46" thick flange. If the wheels you are looking at have a thicker flange than that - say 0.50" - the clearance of the rim to the knuckle drops even more.

Do you have a manufacturer's stated backspace for the wheel? It will probably be in the range of 7.5". The wheels I use as a reference have a 7.41" backspace.

If there is a problem, it might be solved with a thin spacer (1/8" - 1/4"), but then the issue becomes whether longer studs are required.

A 275/35-18 (25.6" diameter) or 285/35-18 (25.9") will keep the diameter of the tire very close to stock, and will fit correctly on a 9.5" wide wheel.

The stock tire diameters are :

215/60-16 (V6 only) = 26.1"
235/55-16 (base V8) = 26.1"
245/50-16 (V8 with Z-rated tire option) - 25.7"

He also said for tires i should get bf goodrich g force comp 2... 255 40 r18 now will these tires and rims work on my 95 camaro??? Heres the rim specs.. thank you

re: Best fitting rims tires 95 Camaro?

I cannot answer your question with 100% absolute certainty, and I am trying to explain why you may get conflicting info from different sources. I've run specific drag wheel/tire combos in the back, and where my setup only required minor tweaks, another person had to actually cut away the inner fender, including the bump stop mounts. There seems to be enough variation in the assembly tolerances to account for that.

In the front the geometry is more stable. The only conflict I see is the inner edge of the rim against the steering knuckle. Your setup with the 7.53” backspace is 0.12” (~1/8”) closer to the knuckle than mine. That is about the clearance I remember with my 7.41” backspace. I can’t crawl under my car and check because right now it has the drag wheels on it. I can see why because the 18” rim edge is 1/2” higher on the knuckle than the edge of my 17”, it may provide the required clearance. When I calculated the possible maximum backspace with your wheels, using the 1/2” wide tire bead retainer flange, it worked out to 7.53”.

Put the onus on the OE Wheels guy. If he will guarantee that they will work, ask him to offer a full refund on return of a test wheel if it won’t work. All he needs to do is send you one wheel. The wheel won’t need a tire to test fit it. You will easily be able to tell if there is any interference between the wheel and the steering knuckle, or any other part. I'll go as far as saying “I think they will work”, but that's just a gut feel.

As far as the tires, a set of 255/40-18 (26.0” diameter) will fit properly on a 9.5” wide wheel. I only recommended the wider tires because 99% of the people ask “what's the widest tire I can put on a X.XX” wide wheel?”

re: Best fitting rims tires 95 Camaro?

I like the wider tires. The stock SS and WS6 coupes came stock with 275’s on 9.0” wide wheels. My first set of aftermarket wheels were 275’s on 17x9.5” all the way around. Current street wheels below are 17x9.5” w/ 275’s in the front, and 17x11.0” w/ 315’s in the back.

18x9.5 58mm offset chrome C6 wheels from oewheels with 275/35/18 tires on all 4 corners. No issues at all fitting my ‘98 Z28.
