Paging WS6 and SS guys: What do to for winter tires?

I just bought a '99 SS. All stock, red/neutral, 75k, automatic (blah but nothing's perfect), near mint, loaded. I love it. Problem is, what in heck do I do for winter tires on this beast? The huge Kumhos aren't going to do it. I used to go with dedicated winter tires on my performance BMWs but the only options for F-bodies are pizza cutters (P225/55-16s) so I'm not going with those.

All seasons seem like the next best option. The standard Z28's P245/50-16s seem like a decent compromise if necessary, though I'd have to pick up new rims. There's also some all-season tires in the stock SS/WS6 tire size (Avon Tech A/S, BF Goodrich g-force T/A, Pirelli PZero Nero M&S), but I'm not sure I have the you-know-whats to drive a car with P275/50-17s on ice, if you know what I mean. Still, if that's not so bad, I'd prefer to do that because I wouldn't have to buy new rims and could keep the stock handling relatively intact.

So what do you snow belt WS6 and SS guys do? I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

Do what alot us do or in my case did. Buy a beater. F-Bodies suck in snow no matter what tires you get. Ive slid off more roads and driveways then I care to admit to when I lived in Upstate NY. Ive had a corvette and 4 f bodies all suck in snow If you must steel rims and 215s or whatever comes stock on a 6 cyl F body

You might want to post this on the "Wheels & Tires" forum, and while you are there look for a couple recent threads on winter tires like the Bridgestone Blizzaks.

Moving to .... "Wheels and Tires".

I found that I can buy a 1993-ish Bonneville/Regal with a 3800 for about the same price as a good set of snow tires and cheap rims to mount them on. That way I won't get salt on the Camaro. So that's what I'm going to do.

I drive my mercury from Nov- March. Saves miles/Insurance and They suck in the snow, although my old 94 Firebird was awesome in snow, besides sliding off my driveway and getting stuck in the yard.

I had no choice but to drive my SS in the winter. I ordered a set of 16 7 1/2 steel wheels with Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50's. Made it through every storm including a nasty noreaster, traction control certainly was useful too, and the fact that the Ls1 doesn't hit max torque till 4000rpms. I got my set from tirerack .com and it was for my car specifically, just type in what kind of car you have and they show you all your choices, set me back around $700, they shipped (fast)them to my installer and went there to have them put on, they were mounted and balanced also(from tirerack). I truly regret having to drive my car in this weather but sometimes things just don't go your way.
