I recently just put 245/40/17 firestone firehawk wide oval indy 500's on my camaro in the front and wasn't too pleased with how the tires looked. They looked too small and just didn't take up enough of the wheel well. What size tires would look best?

 

What is the outside diameter of the original tires on your 74? That will determine what size tires you need to fill up the wheel well. The 245/40-17 is a 24.7" tire.... sounds way too small.

You probably had an FR78-14, F70-14 or F60-15 tire on it originally. Here's a chart that allows you to figure the modern equivalent tire size:

Since that chart doesn't cover 17" wheels, if you tell me the original tire size from your car, I will be able to help you figure the correct 17" tire size.

You probably had a tire with an outside diameter of 26.5 - 27.0". You should look at a 245/50-17 (26.7") or a 255/50-17 (27.0").
